You have two fantastic options located just steps from each other: Mangè – Food Bike Happiness, a beloved local bistro and bike café known for artisanal sandwiches, or Panificio delle Langhe, a classic village bakery offering incredible fresh breads, pizzas, and traditional treats. From there, you’ll hike a portion of the scenic Sentiero del Barolo (Trail No. 7) through rolling vineyards. Your destination is the famous Cappella del Barolo (the Barolo Chapel), a spectacular, non-consecrated 1914 chapel reimagined in 1999 with a vibrant, colorful exterior by artist Sol LeWitt and warm interiors by David Tremlett. Here, you will uncork your wine and enjoy an unforgettable open-air lunch.

Step-by-step Plan

10:30 AM – Food Prep in La Morra: Head to the historic center of La Morra on Via Roma to gather your picnic supplies:

Etiquette: The chapel is located on private property owned by the Ceretto winery. Please respect the vineyards, do not touch the grapes, and leave absolutely no trash behind.

Backup Plan

If it starts to rain, skip the outdoor hike and secure a cozy table inside Mangè to enjoy your panini warm, or walk over to the historic Cantina Comunale di La Morra to taste local wines indoors. Alternatively, you can drive closer to the Cappella del Barolo and complete a much shorter walk, though keep in mind that vehicle access to the closest road is often closed to non-residents on weekends.
