Outdoor Padel Tennis Match in Amstelpark
Padel is the fastest-growing sport in the Netherlands, and playing outdoors in the lush, green setting of Amstelpark offers the perfect balance of high-energy exercise, social fun, and fresh air.
Overview
Experience the high-intensity, easy-to-learn sport of padel tennis, which has completely taken the Netherlands by storm. Combining elements of tennis and squash, padel is played in doubles on an enclosed glass-walled court, making for long, fast-paced rallies and incredibly social gameplay. Located on the edge of the scenic Amsterdamse Bos, the outdoor courts at Amstelpark provide a beautiful, tree-lined backdrop for a friendly tournament or casual match with friends.
Step-by-step Plan
- Arrive Early (15-30 minutes before playtime): Meet your group at the entrance of Amstelpark. Take a brief, scenic walk through the park's lush gardens to reach the club pavilion.
- Check-In and Gear Up (15 minutes): Head to the front desk to confirm your court booking. If you don't have your own gear, rent padel rackets and purchase a fresh can of balls.
- The Big Match (60 to 90 minutes): Step onto one of the 5 premium outdoor courts. Spend the first 10 minutes warming up your groundstrokes and practicing rebounds off the glass walls. Then, play a best-of-three sets match with your group.
- Post-Game Drinks (45-60 minutes): Cool down and head to the cozy on-site terrace. Order a cold Dutch Radler, local craft beer, or soft drink and dissect the best rallies of the day.
Reservations & Hours
- Hours: The venue is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
- Reservations: Booking in advance is highly recommended as peak times sell out quickly. You can easily reserve a court online through the official platform. Off-peak times (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM) are significantly cheaper and easier to book.
What to Bring
- Comfortable athletic wear and athletic shoes (non-marking soles are preferred).
- Refillable water bottle.
- Padel racket and balls (if you already own them; otherwise, they are easily rented on-site).
- Towel and a change of clothes if you wish to use the changing rooms and showers after the match.
Budget
- Court Rental: Off-peak hours start at approximately €20 per hour. Peak hours range from €22 to €30 per hour (split between 4 players, making it around €5 to €7.50 per person per hour).
- Racket Rental: €5 per racket.
- Balls: Approximately €8 per can (to keep).
- Drinks/Snacks: €3 to €6 per person at the club bar.
Tips & Accessibility
- Finding Players: Padel is strictly a doubles sport (4 players). If you don't have a group of four, you can join the venue's local WhatsApp groups or use matchmaking features on booking apps to find players of a similar skill level.
- Accessibility: The pavilion, terrace, and spectator areas are flat and wheelchair accessible. Active gameplay on standard courts requires physical mobility, but adaptive/para-padel options exist within the broader Dutch padel community.
Backup Plan
If the notoriously unpredictable Dutch weather takes a turn for the worse, you can try to move your booking to an indoor court. The Padellers Amsterdam-West is a fully indoor facility located nearby. Alternatively, you can seek shelter in the cozy indoor bar area at Amstelpark for a hot drink, or explore the nearby indoor exhibitions at the Amsterdamse Bos visitor center.
