How to make it

1. Chill the Glassware

  1. Place your coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes to chill thoroughly.

2. Combine and Stir

  1. Add the London dry gin, sweet red vermouth, Green Chartreuse, and orange bitters to a mixing glass or heavy tumbler.
  2. Fill the mixing glass about three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes.
  3. Stir smoothly with a bar spoon for 25 to 30 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled and properly diluted.

3. Strain and Serve

  1. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass using a julep or Hawthorne strainer.
  2. Gently drop a maraschino cherry into the bottom of the glass.
  3. Hold the orange peel skin-side down over the surface of the drink, pinch firmly to express the aromatic oils across the top, rub the rim with the peel, and drop it in or set it on the glass edge.

Garnish

An expressed orange peel twist and a single brandied or maraschino cherry.

Make it alcohol-free

Swap the gin for a botanical non-alcoholic spirit (such as Seedlip Spice 94 or Tanqueray 0.0), replace the sweet vermouth with a non-alcoholic red aperitif (such as Lyre's Aperitif Rosso or Martini Non-Alcoholic Floreale/Vibrante), and use a complex herbal non-alcoholic elixir or botanical cordial with gentian/anise notes along with non-alcoholic orange bitters.
