How to make it

Chill and Prepare

  1. Place a large ice cube or ice sphere into your rocks glass and set it aside to chill.

Mix the Drink

  1. Add the bourbon (or rye), Campari, and sweet red vermouth into a mixing glass or shaker tin.
  2. Fill the mixing glass about three-quarters full with regular ice cubes.

Stir and Strain

  1. Stir smoothly with a bar spoon for 25 to 30 seconds until the liquid is thoroughly chilled and properly diluted.
  2. Strain the mixture over the large ice cube in your prepared rocks glass.

Finish and Serve

  1. Express the oils from the orange peel over the top of the glass by holding it skin-side down and giving it a gentle pinch, then drop the twist directly into the drink.

Garnish

An expressed fresh orange peel twist

Make it alcohol-free

Swap the bourbon for 45ml of an alcohol-free whiskey alternative (such as Lyre's American Malt or CleanCo Clean W), the Campari for 30ml of a non-alcoholic Italian red bitter (like Lyre's Italian Orange or Sanbittèr), and the sweet vermouth for 30ml of non-alcoholic sweet vermouth (such as Lyre's Aperitif Rosso).
