How to make it
Chill and Prepare
- Place a large ice cube or ice sphere into your rocks glass and set it aside to chill.
Mix the Drink
- Add the bourbon (or rye), Campari, and sweet red vermouth into a mixing glass or shaker tin.
- Fill the mixing glass about three-quarters full with regular ice cubes.
Stir and Strain
- Stir smoothly with a bar spoon for 25 to 30 seconds until the liquid is thoroughly chilled and properly diluted.
- Strain the mixture over the large ice cube in your prepared rocks glass.
Finish and Serve
- Express the oils from the orange peel over the top of the glass by holding it skin-side down and giving it a gentle pinch, then drop the twist directly into the drink.
Garnish
An expressed fresh orange peel twist
Make it alcohol-free
Swap the bourbon for 45ml of an alcohol-free whiskey alternative (such as Lyre's American Malt or CleanCo Clean W), the Campari for 30ml of a non-alcoholic Italian red bitter (like Lyre's Italian Orange or Sanbittèr), and the sweet vermouth for 30ml of non-alcoholic sweet vermouth (such as Lyre's Aperitif Rosso).
