How to make it
Prep the Glass
- Fill your glass mug with boiling water to warm it up, then discard the water after a minute.
Mix the Base
- Pour the hot brewed coffee into the warmed glass.
- Add the brown sugar and stir thoroughly until completely dissolved.
- Stir in the Irish whiskey.
Float the Cream
- Shake the heavy cream in a small jar or whisk it lightly in a bowl until it is slightly thickened but still pourable (do not whip it to stiff peaks).
- Hold a warm teaspoon upside down just above the surface of the coffee. Slowly pour the cream over the back of the spoon so it floats gently on top of the dark coffee.
Garnish
A perfectly layered white cream float (optionally topped with a tiny pinch of freshly grated nutmeg)
Make it alcohol-free
Replace the Irish whiskey with 45ml of a non-alcoholic dark spirit alternative, like Lyre's Highland Malt, or use a few drops of rum extract.
