How to make it

Chill the Glass

  1. Place your Nick & Nora or coupe glass into the freezer for 10 minutes, or fill it with ice and cold water while preparing the cocktail.

Mix and Chill

  1. Add the Old Tom gin, sweet vermouth, Maraschino liqueur, and aromatic bitters into a mixing glass or heavy tumbler.
  2. Fill the mixing glass about three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes.
  3. Stir gently and continuously with a bar spoon for 25 to 30 seconds until the mixture is thoroughly chilled and properly diluted.

Strain and Serve

  1. If you chilled your serving glass with ice water, discard the ice water.
  2. Strain the cocktail smoothly through a julep or Hawthorne strainer into the pre-chilled glass.
  3. Express the essential oils from the orange peel over the top of the drink, wipe the rim lightly with the peel, and drop it into the glass.

Garnish

An expressed orange peel twist expressed over the surface and dropped in.

Make it alcohol-free

Swap the gin for a non-alcoholic botanical spirit (such as Seedlip Spice 94 or Lyre's Dry London Spirit), replace the sweet vermouth with a non-alcoholic red vermouth alternative (like Martini Vibrante or Lyre's Aperitif Rosso), use a barspoon of cherry syrup in place of the Maraschino liqueur, and use non-alcoholic aromatic bitters.
