How to make it
Build the Base
- Drop the sugar cube into a rocks glass.
- Saturate the sugar cube with three dashes of Angostura bitters and a teaspoon of water.
- Muddle the mixture thoroughly until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Combine and Stir
- Pour in the Bourbon whiskey.
- Fill the glass with ice cubes and stir gently with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds to chill the mixture and achieve the right dilution.
Serve
- Slide a large, fresh ice block or sphere into the glass if possible to keep it perfectly chilled with minimal melting.
- Squeeze the orange peel over the glass to release its citrus oils, brush the rim with the peel, and drop it into the drink.
Garnish
A fresh strip of orange peel expressed over the glass and dropped in.
Make it alcohol-free
Replace the bourbon whiskey with 60ml of a non-alcoholic dark spirit alternative, such as Lyre's American Malt, and use alcohol-free aromatic bitters.
