Cómo prepararlo

1. Chill the Glass

  1. Fill your serving glass with cold water and a few ice cubes, or stash it in the freezer while you assemble the drink.

2. Combine and Stir

  1. Add the rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters into a mixing glass (or any clean, heavy-bottomed glass tumbler).
  2. Fill the mixing glass three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes.
  3. Stir smoothly with a bar spoon for about 25 to 30 seconds until the vessel feels thoroughly cold to the touch and the liquid is chilled and lightly diluted.

3. Strain and Serve

  1. Dump the chilling ice from your serving glass.
  2. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass using a Hawthorne or julep strainer (a small kitchen sieve works fine in a pinch).

Decoración

Hold the orange peel skin-side down over the glass, pinch it firmly to spritz the fragrant citrus oils over the surface, drop the peel or discard it, then drop a single maraschino or brandied cherry into the bottom of the glass.

Hazlo sin alcohol

Swap the rye whiskey for 50ml of a spiced non-alcoholic spirit or zero-proof bourbon alternative (such as Lyre's American Malt or CleanCo Clean W), replace the sweet vermouth with 25ml non-alcoholic red aperitif (such as Martini Vibrante or Lyre's Rosso), swap the dry vermouth for 25ml non-alcoholic dry aperitif (such as Lyre's Dry London / Apéritif), and finish with 2 dashes of alcohol-free aromatic bitters.
