If you are looking for an entry point into contemporary high-gloss Nollywood genre filmmaking, this supernatural revenge thriller is a fascinating watch12. It reimagines one of Nigeria’s most famous pop-culture urban legends—the mythos surrounding the river spirit Mami Wata—through the lens of sleek modern melodrama and slick visual aesthetics34. Watching a classic tale of spiritual possession transformed into an action-inflected, high-society payback mission makes it a distinct and stylish alternative to typical Hollywood supernatural fare1.
