Come si prepara
1. Chill the Glass
- Pop your Nick & Nora or coupe glass into the freezer, or fill it with ice water while you assemble the drink.
2. Combine and Stir
- Add the sweet vermouth, gin, maraschino liqueur, and both dashes of bitters into a mixing glass (or any heavy-bottomed pint glass).
- Fill the mixing glass three-quarters full with solid ice cubes.
- Stir smoothly for about 25 to 30 seconds until the glass feels frosty and the drink is thoroughly chilled and properly diluted.
3. Strain and Serve
- Discard the ice water from your serving glass if you chilled it that way.
- Strain the mixture cleanly into the cold glass using a julep strainer or fine mesh sieve.
Guarnizione
Express the oils from the strip of orange peel over the surface of the drink by pinching it skin-side down, rub the rim gently with the peel, and drop it into the glass or set it on the rim.
Versione analcolica
Swap the sweet vermouth for an alcohol-free Italian red aperitif (such as Lyre's Aperitif Rosso or Martini Vibrante), replace the gin with an alcohol-free botanical spirit (such as Seedlip Spice 94 or Gordon's 0.0), substitute the maraschino liqueur with 5ml of standard maraschino cherry syrup from the jar, and use non-alcoholic aromatic bitters.
