The Drowned World
di J. G. Ballard
Perché leggerlo
This cornerstone of British New Wave science fiction flips the typical apocalyptic survival script. Rather than fighting to salvage human society in a flooded, overheated biosphere, the characters undergo a strange, hypnotic psychological pull toward the primordial environment. It offers an eerie, intensely vivid meditation on deep time, nature's dominance, and the subconscious mind.

Cosa aspettarsi
Atmospheric, hallucinatory, and deliberate in pace. The prose is lush and richly descriptive rather than plot-driven, making it moderately demanding for readers used to fast action. Content notes: contains depictions of violence, looting, animal cruelty, and period-typical racial tropes in its depiction of certain side characters.
