Bereiding

1. Prep and Preheat

  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (170°C fan).
  2. Lightly grease a medium baking dish (about 20x25 cm) with a smear of butter.

2. Prepare the Fruit Layer

  1. In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples, frozen mixed berries, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of the ground cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch or flour until evenly coated.
  2. Transfer the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.

3. Mix the Crumble Topping

  1. In the same bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, remaining 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Add the cold, cubed butter.
  3. Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs with some pea-sized clusters forming.

4. Assemble and Bake

  1. Scatter the crumble mixture evenly over the fruit layer, making sure not to pack it down so it stays crisp.
  2. Bake in the oven for 35 to 40 minutes, until the topping is rich golden-brown and the fruit juices are bubbling up around the edges.
  3. Remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes to settle before serving warm with vanilla custard, cream, or vanilla ice cream.
