Holidays on Ice
de David Sedaris
Porquê ler
It serves as the quintessential counterweight to sentimental holiday cheer, blending biting observational satire with genuine vulnerability. Centered around his infamous real-life stint as an elf in a department store grotto, the collection skewers seasonal rituals, family dynamics, and commercial hysteria with deadpan brilliance.
Onde arranjar
Listen via Storytel, Nextory, Audible, BookBeat, or Kobo in the Netherlands; the audiobook is primarily narrated by David Sedaris himself, with contributions from Amy Sedaris and Ann Magnuson. Digital copies are often accessible through the Dutch Online Bibliotheek (OverDrive/Libby). For print or digital purchases, check Bol.com, Athenaeum Boekhandel, Waterstones Amsterdam, or local independent bookshops.
O que esperar
A cynical, laugh-out-loud funny, and fast-paced listen delivered in the author's signature dry, deadpan cadence. It is very light and approachable, though it frequently leans into dark comedy, awkward social disasters, and mildly irreverent humor surrounding holiday traditions and family dysfunction.
